This is a specialized workshop explaining the Magnetic option in Jana2006
for refinement of magnetic structures from neutron powder or single crystal data. Jana2006
includes tools for determination of magnetic symmetry from the symmetry of diffraction pattern
as well as tools for representative analysis. It can find direct relationship between magnetic space
or superspace group and corresponding representation and use it in the refinement. The
underlying theory has been published in
Acta Cryst.(2010),A66,449-655 and
J. Phys. Condens. Matter (2012),24,163201(20pp)
Related topic is combination of data in Jana2006 because a magnetic structure based on powder neutron data can be refined together with nuclear structure based on more precice x-ray data. Another related topic concerns commensurate refinement becase magnetic q-vector is usually commensurate.
The workshop will cover following topics:
- Introduction to Jana2006
- Introduction to magnetic structures
- Introduction to magnetic symmetry
- Introduction to refinement of powder data with Jana2006
- Introduction to commensurate refinement with Jana2006
- Combination of data in Jana2006
- Solution of simple magnetic structures
- Solution of commensurate magnetic structures
Lecturers for this workshop: Vaclav Petricek, Juan Manuel Perez-Mato (Bilbao), Branton J. Campbell (Brigham), Ondrej Sipr (Prague) and Michal Dusek.
For this workshop a preliminary experience with Jana2006 is not needed.
Computers
Each participant should bring a laptop with operating
system Windows2000/XP/Vista/Windows7, with Administration rights.
Installation of all necessary
software will be done at the beginning of the workshop.
Wireless internet connection including Eduroam is available
at the lecture room. Limited number of computers can be
provided to people without laptop (please inform us before
the workshop that this would be needed)
Workshop cookbook
Workshop cookbook cumulates examples from all Jana workshops. The latest
version together with example files and installations files is available
in jana page:
cookbook.zip (~ 50MB).
THE LINK IS UPDATED AFTER THE WORKSHOP, NOT BEFORE!

may trigger organization of similar workshop in near future.
Otherwise this workshop will be organized again after one year.
For registration please send e-mail to Michal Dusek, dusek@fzu.cz
Organizers
The workshop is organized by Department of structure analysis at the
Institute of Physics and Special interest group on aperiodic crystals
at ECA. The date and program are created in collaboration with
participants.
